August 15, 1958 - February, 13 2016
After a short battle with cancer, Brenda Jean Richard died on Feb. 13, 2016, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Charles E. Richard; three children, Kim (Mike) Joslyn of Jamestown, Jen Richard (Ryan Montanus) of Rochester, N.Y., and Ryan (Jessie) Richard of Cherry Creek, N.Y., as well as her beloved granddaughter, Alanis Marie, and pets Semper Fi and Sybil. Brenda was born on Aug. 15, 1958 in Jamestown, N.Y., to William L. and Clara E. (Angell) Madden. She grew up in a large, loving family with three sisters and three brothers. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1976 and went on to earn her nursing degree in 1978. She married the love of her life, Chuck Richard on Aug. 18, 1978. Brenda was the devoted mother of three children and took time off from her job as a nurse at WCA Hospital to raise them. In 1999, she returned to college in order to become a registered nurse and graduated with honors from JCC in 2001. She finished her nursing career at Heritage Village in Gerry, N.Y., where she made some amazing friends. Brenda cherished her friends and considered them family. Brenda loved her family above everything else and enjoyed spending time with them. She loved teasing her brothers and sisters about who was mom's favorite and shared many inside jokes with them. She drew the best notes for her children's lunch boxes everyday while they were in school and was excellent at winking. She was also known to drink out of a shoe on special occasions. When diagnosed with cancer, she remained positive throughout and took comfort in her family, especially her granddaughter, Alanis. She remained brave and always had a smile for everyone, even in her final days. Brenda is also survived by her mother, Clara Madden, sisters: Bonnie (Steve) Moore of Frewsburg, Kay Richard (Fredonia, N.Y.), Betsy Richard (Oklahoma), and Loretta (Gary) Lucas of Jamestown, and her brothers: William (Agnes) Madden of Florida, Ron (Kelly) Madden of Jamestown, Russ Sheets ofRoaring Springs, Pa. and Larry Madden of Jamestown, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and grandpups and grandcats. She was preceded in death by her father; her sister, Christy L. (Madden) Sheets; and both of her in-laws, Edward and Isabelle Richard. There will be a memorial service at the Busti Church of God on Friday at 11 a.m. for friends and family. The Rev. Roy Ferguson, pastor, will officiate. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Strong Memorial Hospital for their constant, attentive treatment. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Wilmot Cancer Institute, University of Rochester Medical Center, 601 Elmwood Ave. Box 704 Rochester, NY 14642.
